About Re-Leased
Re-Leased is transforming real estate management by empowering property professionals to thrive with a cloud-based platform. This software integrates automation, AI insights, and deep industry knowledge to simplify daily tasks and enhance the way property businesses operate and connect with their communities.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Technical Lead, based in Napier or remotely elsewhere in New Zealand, who will guide a squad in the design, development, and deployment of advanced software solutions. You'll collaborate with product and engineering managers to ensure precise planning, clear technical direction, and efficient, safe delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design software architectures using proven design patterns allowing autonomous development and scalability.
- Lead implementation planning at the team level, clarifying intent, scope, and coding patterns, especially involving AI.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and Product Managers to organize and break down work accurately for timely delivery.
- Proactively identify and communicate risks like blockers or delays, taking ownership of decisions within the squad.
- Develop and maintain high-quality, complex distributed system code.
- Establish and uphold code review standards, particularly governing AI-assisted development practices for the team.
- Oversee monitoring and observability activities using operational metrics to enhance system stability and performance.
- Assist with diagnosing and resolving complex production issues and ensure robust contingency plans for potential feature misuse.
- Mentor team engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing to build squad resilience.
- Represent the squad in cross-team technical discussions to align engineering efforts.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 7 years of software engineering experience, or equivalent tertiary qualifications or Microsoft Certification with strong experience.
- Proven background in leading technical direction for engineering teams or squads.
- Expertise in software engineering principles and architectural patterns (e.g., SOLID, YAGNI), writing clean and efficient code, and evaluating peer code.
- Experience delivering solutions for Cloud/SaaS environments, preferably on Microsoft Azure.
- Competence with frontend frameworks such as Vue.js, React or Angular, and modern web technologies including JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
- Experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines for automated builds and deployments.
- Consistent application of a security-first mindset to personal work and code reviews.
- Demonstrated leadership in adopting AI-assisted development within teams, setting best practices, coaching, and documenting learnings.
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and communication skills, adept at collaborating across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technology Stack and Working Style
The team operates primarily within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem with AI integrated into development processes rather than as an add-on. The role involves leading technical planning that incorporates AI and establishing team standards on AI usage in code review. The squads manage their own DevOps practices, using tools like Terraform for Infrastructure as Code and Azure DevOps for deployments, with prior experience in these technologies regarded as an advantage.
Company Culture and Benefits
- Comprehensive health insurance, premium Employee Assistance Program, and an annual wellness allowance for fitness or mindfulness resources.
- Generous paid parental leave and family-focused flexible working arrangements supporting work-life balance.
- Recognition programs for employee tenure and milestones, including additional leave and rewards.
- Flexible hybrid and remote working arrangements suited for a distributed international team.
- Core values emphasizing people first, overcoming challenges, continuous learning, and ambitious goal-setting.
