Technical Design Manager

Role Overview

The Technical Design Manager is responsible for leading diverse engineering teams including civil, structural, architectural, MEP, ELV, BIM, and other specialized disciplines. This role involves crafting and executing comprehensive design management plans, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring all designs meet contractual, regulatory, and project standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple domains such as civil, structural, architectural, and MEP.
• Create and maintain design management schedules and deliverables to keep projects on track.
• Facilitate design harmonization among consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, specialist vendors, and construction teams.
• Ensure adherence to employer requirements, contract terms, applicable regulations, and project goals.
• Oversee design reviews, approval of shop drawings, material submissions, technical calculations, BIM models, RFIs, and other technical documentation.
• Perform evaluations related to constructability, maintainability, commissioning, and value engineering.
• Manage multidisciplinary design interfaces and address technical clashes through efficient BIM coordination.
• Handle design modifications, manage technical deviations, and assess their impacts on costs, schedules, and construction.
• Coordinate submissions and approvals with various authorities including Civil Defence and utility providers.
• Review vendor-submitted designs ensuring seamless integration of long-lead and specialized equipment.
• Provide technical advice and support to procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover teams.
• Monitor key project performance indicators, risk factors, approval statuses, and design deliverables, relaying updates to senior leadership.
• Guarantee preparation and submission of coordinated as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and final technical documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management is highly desirable.
• Between 12 to 15 years of extensive multidisciplinary design and construction experience with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience working with main contractors on major building developments including high-rise and data center projects.
• Strong background in delivering design-and-build or EPC projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of international design codes, local regulatory requirements, BIM coordination practices, and integration of building services.
