Role Overview
The Systems Test Engineer is responsible for performing test engineering tasks according to established standards and procedures. This role primarily involves applying well-defined test methodologies to projects of fundamental and moderate complexity, often working under general supervision. The engineer may occasionally evaluate simple product specifications to develop suitable test plans and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and review engineering test requirements and criteria intended for production.
- Contribute to the creation of test procedures, documentation, troubleshooting methods, and provide training assistance for test personnel.
- Assist in developing documentation related to production acceptance, in-process, and environmental stress screening test procedures.
- Analyze test requirements and criteria, recommending optimal approaches for execution.
- Assess equipment and material needs for production testing, trials, or demonstration activities linked to new bids.
- Make recommendations to management regarding necessary commercial off-the-shelf or bench-top testing equipment.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to evaluate manufacturing and production sequencing to optimize overall build and verification processes.
- Work alongside manufacturing and industrial engineering teams to estimate test durations, cycle times, equipment usage, and capacity requirements.
- Support first article proofing of test procedures, equipment, and relevant software prior to production release.
- Coordinate closely with Design and Quality Engineering teams to address any issues before product release.
- Provide liaison support between product test teams, manufacturing, and design engineering during production testing to resolve technical challenges.
- Prepare and conduct formal acceptance testing with customers at Cubic locations and on customer sites abroad.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a tertiary qualification in electronic engineering, computer science, information systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Hold a minimum of two years’ experience in production testing, test and evaluation, or in test equipment development.
- Have at least two years of experience using test instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers.
- Demonstrate proficiency with software capable of operating message-structured interfaces down to bit and byte levels, including knowledge of hexadecimal message structures for interface testing.
- Understand engineering documentation thoroughly, including assembly drawings, schematics, and specifications, and be capable of interpreting manufacturer manuals and component data sheets.
