About The Role

Propellerhead is seeking a seasoned Systems Reliability Engineer who is adept with AI-assisted workflows to join our Engineering Team. This role partners with core development teams to maintain and enhance operational systems, striving towards automation and minimal manual intervention. You will be instrumental throughout the development cycle, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and manageable, while continuously optimizing software and infrastructure to boost performance and reduce costs.

The role requires hands-on support during real-time incidents combined with DevOps activities such as deploying changes and investigating system issues, primarily relying on AI to undertake initial analysis and automation with your guidance and verification.

Although based in Auckland requiring regular office presence, we embrace a hybrid work environment facilitating both in-office and remote work. We welcome applicants within New Zealand and abroad who intend to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with development teams to architect cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure.
• Lead end-to-end provisioning of deployment environments including servers, networking, and services, handling client technical communications.
• Ensure architectures incorporate security, scalability, maintainability, and performance considerations.
• Help build continuous integration and deployment pipelines tailored to technology stacks.
• Execute scheduled software releases in scenarios without full automation.
• Configure and integrate monitoring and alerting frameworks with support systems.
• Assist support teams in troubleshooting by validating issues and determining escalation paths.
• Participate in on-call rotations providing timely incident diagnosis and resolution.
• Document incidents comprehensively and implement mitigation strategies in partnership with developers.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce support incidents.
• Automate recurring tasks to eliminate manual repetition.
• Maintain thorough documentation of architecture and deployment processes with AI support, and share knowledge across teams.

Required Skills and Experience

• Professional background as a Site or Systems Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar.
• Proficiency and comfort with leveraging AI tools for diagnosis, scripting, automation, and documentation within an AI-driven delivery environment.
• Experience in developing scalable web applications.
• Working knowledge of Rust, Java, .NET or Go, alongside frontend technologies including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks like Node.js, ReactJS, AngularJS.
• Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Ruby, Python, shell or equivalent languages augmented by AI assistance.
• Demonstrated expertise designing Microsoft Azure cloud architectures, using Microsoft DevOps pipelines, GitHub Actions, and Terraform.
• Experience managing Linux servers hosted in cloud environments.
• Skilled in configuring and troubleshooting virtual networking environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as New Relic or Dynatrace, including dashboard and alert system setup.
• Knowledge of AWS and Bamboo/Bitbucket Pipelines is a plus.
• Ability to adapt efficiently across diverse technologies and complex systems.
• Calmness and sound judgement during high-pressure incident resolution events.
• Discerning application of AI outputs, knowing when to trust or verify manually.
• Strong commitment to continuous learning and skill enhancement.
• Must reside in Auckland with availability to work on-site approximately three days per week.
