About the Role

IDEA Services offers support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives within their homes and communities. As a Support Worker, you will play an essential role in assisting clients with complex needs, managing risk, and delivering personalized care. This meaningful position requires creativity and the ability to make everyday experiences engaging and valuable for those you support.

The role involves working with individuals who may exhibit challenging behaviors, where patience and appropriate approaches are vital to encourage positive behaviors and foster a supportive environment. You will help clients identify and cope with emotional overwhelm and respond safely to such situations. We seek candidates who are physically active, resilient, and confident in managing challenging behaviors.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist clients to recognize and manage emotional overwhelm.
• Support development of independence and daily living skills such as using public transport, employment, and meal preparation.
• Help manage personal care routines, including toileting, showering, dressing, medication administration, and eating.
• Encourage clients to pursue their individual goals, interests, and hobbies.
• Promote healthy lifestyle choices and wellbeing.
• Facilitate strong connections between clients and their whānau and community.

Candidate Attributes and Requirements

• Preferably have prior experience providing personal or caregiving support for adults.
• Maintain a calm demeanor and demonstrate confidence in handling challenging behaviors.
• Be available for flexible shifts including weekends and overnight sleepovers.
• Be comfortable and adept at using computers and tablets daily.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Have the physical fitness necessary to offer required physical assistance.
• Hold a full New Zealand driver's license.

Additional Information

• Location: Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.
• Employment: Permanent full-time including weekend and sleepover shifts, with requirement to work alternating weekends.
