Support Worker - Counties

About the Role

As a Support Worker based in the Counties area covering Takanini, Papakura, Pukekohe, and Waiuku, you will play a vital role in empowering adults with intellectual disabilities to live meaningful and independent lives within their own homes and communities. This full-time position requires working 65 hours per fortnight including additional sleepover shifts. Flexible availability is necessary as shifts include mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist individuals to develop independence by supporting daily living activities such as using public transport and meal preparation.
• Provide help with personal care routines including showering, dressing, and medication management.
• Encourage involvement in personal interests, hobbies, and goal achievement.
• Support overall health and wellbeing tailored to each person’s needs.
• Manage complex behavioral situations with calmness, ensuring dignity and safety.
• Foster connections by building strong relationships with whānau, colleagues, and community members.

Qualifications and Experience

• Prior experience in health or disability services is preferred but not mandatory; a strong willingness to develop as a Support Worker and a positive attitude are essential.
• Availability to work varied rostered shifts as specified.
• Confidence in supporting individuals with challenging behaviors using positive, respectful techniques (training provided).
• Ability to use technology including computers and tablets for documentation and communication.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to build rapport effectively.
• Physical capability to provide hands-on support where required.
• Possession of a current full and clean New Zealand driver’s license.

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly pay ranging from $24.68 to $30.13 depending on qualifications, with potential for increased rates as further certifications are earned.
