Support Services Attendant

About the Role

Join the Shannex Maplestone Enhanced Care team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as a Support Services Attendant, where compassion, professionalism, and safety are central values. In this full-time, onsite role, you will contribute significantly to the well-being of residents by performing essential cleaning, laundry, and food service support duties within a respectful and supportive environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Clean and polish various surfaces including furniture, counters, shelving, walls, and window or door ledges thoroughly.
• Maintain cleanliness of sinks, toilets, and bathing areas to high standards.
• Restock supplies in resident rooms, nursing units, and restrooms consistently.
• Empty trash receptacles, clean them, and dispose of waste correctly in designated areas.
• Ensure meal presentation, temperature, portion size, and service timing meet department standards.
• Promptly report and handle any equipment or temperature concerns with supervisors.
• Stay informed on daily menu changes and resident needs.
• Handle food receipt and proper storage diligently.
• Prepare and assist with fluid passes, snacks, and night lunches for residents.
• Collect resident feedback on menus and report to management.
• Sort laundry by type (linens, mops, personal clothing) and operate washing machines, dryers, and extractors using correct procedures.
• Organize clean laundry according to quotas, tag and place residents' clothing appropriately, and deliver clean laundry to the designated areas.
• Inspect laundry for damage and forward items needing repair.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile

• Completion of High School or GED.
• At least one year of experience preferred in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry services.
• CPR/First Aid certification is an advantage.
• Successful candidates must pass a clear Criminal Record Check and, if applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check before hiring.
• Previous experience in food services and long-term care environments will be considered assets.
• Adaptability to fast-paced work settings and flexible scheduling, including shifts during days, weekends, and holidays.
