About the Role
This permanent full-time position as a Street Cleansing Labourer plays a vital role in maintaining community safety and promoting positive environmental outcomes within the City of Stonnington. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality street cleaning services to ensure streets and precinct areas remain clean and well-maintained.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled cleaning of public roads, streets, laneways, and car parks to uphold cleanliness standards.
- Manually clean streets and laneways using brooms, rakes, and shovels efficiently and effectively.
- Perform manual handling activities such as lifting, digging, raking, sweeping, and operate mechanical tools as necessary.
- Operate various sizes of street cleaning vehicles safely and competently in alignment with road traffic laws.
- Maintain the cleanliness and mechanical condition of vehicles, promptly reporting any defects to the relevant maintenance teams and recording details in vehicle logs.
- Coordinate with the Team Leader to report unfinished tasks.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with residents, traders, the general public, and other Council departments, embodying the Council’s positive image.
- Report any incidents or accidents immediately to the Team Leader.
- Adhere to safety protocols and consistently use appropriate protective equipment while performing duties.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with operating street cleaning machinery and related equipment.
- Understanding of safe manual handling practices and occupational health and safety standards.
- Basic proficiency with hand tools.
- Strong skills in time management, organization, and planning to meet work targets effectively.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in collaborating constructively with management, colleagues, and the public.
- Commitment to fostering a positive team environment.
- Possession of a current, valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Physical capacity to meet the demands of the role.
- Flexibility to achieve work objectives within specified time frames.
Compensation and Benefits
The role offers a competitive annual salary of $74,142.28 plus 12% superannuation benefits.
