Job description

About the Role

This position is central to ensuring smooth operations at a safari resort in Maasai Mara, Kenya. The Storekeeper will manage the receipt, storage, and issuance of all resort supplies including food, beverages, linens, cleaning materials, and maintenance equipment. Your role involves meticulous verification of deliveries, systematic organisation of goods in various storage conditions, and issuing items strictly against approved requests. Accurate record-keeping and regular stock audits are crucial to minimize shortages and waste, supporting a seamless guest experience even in a remote location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify incoming shipments by comparing them with purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices to confirm correct quantities, quality, and specifications before acceptance.
  • Organize inventory in dry storage, cold rooms, and general storage areas to ensure easy retrieval, proper labelling, and appropriate storage conditions.
  • Distribute supplies to relevant departments such as kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance, and front office only upon receipt of authorised requisition forms, maintaining detailed documentation of all issuances.
  • Implement First In, First Out (FIFO) protocol particularly for perishable items to prevent spoilage and ensure freshness.
  • Conduct routine physical stock counts; reconcile these with inventory system records, investigate discrepancies, and monitor damaged or slow-moving stock.
  • Monitor usage patterns, notifying procurement personnel when stock dips below minimum levels or abnormal consumption is detected.
  • Maintain cleanliness and security of storage facilities by controlling access, monitoring temperatures, and upholding hygiene standards.
  • Keep precise records of inventory transactions within the system and compile monthly stock reports for management review.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a diploma or degree in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, storekeeping, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years’ practical experience in storekeeping or inventory control, preferably within hospitality settings such as hotels, lodges, or resorts.
  • Familiarity with hotel inventory processes, cold-chain management, food safety norms, and stock auditing procedures.
  • Proficiency in computerised inventory management applications and Microsoft Office tools like Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to identify errors in quantity, quality, or delivery documentation.
  • Demonstrated honesty and reliability in managing company property and sensitive inventory data.
  • Physical fitness adequate for handling, arranging, and transporting store items throughout the working day.

Compensation and Working Conditions

This is a full-time role located onsite at a prestigious safari resort in Maasai Mara. The monthly remuneration for this position is KES 20,000. The job offers the chance to hone hospitality supply management skills and directly impact guest satisfaction in a dynamic environment.
