About the Role
As the Human Resource Manager for a hospitality business located on Thika Road, you will oversee all human resource activities, acting as the primary liaison between executive management, department leaders, and employees. Your work will focus on ensuring efficient recruitment, accurate payroll processing, employee issue management, compliance with Kenyan employment laws, and fostering a supportive employee environment conducive to high service standards and operational stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the entire recruitment process, from identifying hiring needs to interviewing, shortlisting, and issuing contracts, while building talent pools for seasonal and urgent hiring situations.
- Address employee relations matters, including grievances and conflicts, managing these impartially and discreetly.
- Administer disciplinary procedures aligned with company policies and Kenyan labor laws, facilitating formal hearings and aiding line managers with performance concerns.
- Coordinate the monthly payroll cycle by verifying attendance, overtime, leaves, deductions, and bonuses; collaborate with Finance to resolve discrepancies and audit payroll records.
- Oversee performance appraisal cycles, support supervisors in establishing KPIs, and develop enhancement plans for underperforming employees.
- Identify training requirements, organize capacity-building initiatives, and implement employee retention and recognition programs that foster succession planning.
- Maintain precise and confidential employee records, such as contracts and leave logs, and generate monthly analytics on turnover, absenteeism, and staffing trends.
- Continuously update HR policies, handbooks, and procedures to comply with labor legislation, occupational safety standards, and other statutory requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in HR, including at least two years in supervisory or management roles.
- Preferably experienced in HR management within full-service hotels, resorts, or high-volume hospitality environments.
- Membership or certification with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) or the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is advantageous.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Kenyan Employment Act, industrial relations, dispute mediation, and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) norms.
- Practical experience with payroll software, HR information systems, and performance management tools.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership and departmental managers.
Compensation and Work Conditions
This is a full-time, onsite position based in Thika Road with a monthly salary of KES 70000.
