About Pet Valu and Role Overview

Pet Valu operates a family of pet retail stores including Pet Valu, Paulmac's Pet Food, Bosley's, Tisol, and Total Pet, serving North America. We provide food and supplies for a wide range of animals such as dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, and small pets. Committed to community support, we partner with local shelters and charities for adoption events and food bank programs. As a Store Manager at our Langdon, Alberta location, you'd lead a team of pet enthusiasts to deliver exceptional service, assist Pet Parents with pet nutrition and care, and foster store growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment, scheduling, training, task assignment, supervision, and coaching for store employees.
  • Ensure customer service standards are met and maintain strong community relations with groups like the Humane Society.
  • Implement and monitor adherence to corporate operational procedures and standards.
  • Manage store operations including orders, inventory control, safety and store audits, minor repairs, and corporate paperwork.
  • Drive business results by coordinating staff efforts to meet targets.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in customer service and retail store management.
  • Passion for learning and developing within the pet care industry.
  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, with reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Capability to coach and provide feedback on sales techniques and customer interactions.
  • Conflict recognition and escalation skills within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with POS systems.
  • Physical ability to repeatedly lift weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Prior experience in the pet-related industry is advantageous.
