Pet Valu is part of a large North American retail network of pet stores including Paulmac's Pet Food, Bosley's, Tisol, and Total Pet. We focus on providing high-quality food and supplies for a wide variety of pets such as dogs, cats, companion birds, wild birds, fish, reptiles, and small animals. Our stores are dedicated to supporting local pets through partnerships with shelters, rescues, and charities by organizing adoption events, in-store adoptions at select locations, pet food banks, and national donation campaigns.

Role Overview

As a Store Manager based in Kamloops, British Columbia, you will lead and nurture your store team to deliver outstanding customer service while helping pet parents find suitable nutritional and care products. You will be part of an enthusiastic group of Pet Experts and gain valuable training and benefits while growing your career in one of North America's leading pet retail chains.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all customer service standards are consistently met and maintain positive relationships within the local community, including connections with organizations like the Humane Society.
• Recruit, schedule, train, assign daily tasks, supervise, and coach store employees to maintain high team performance.
• Enforce compliance with corporate operational standards and procedures among all staff members.
• Oversee administrative duties such as placing orders, managing inventory, completing store and safety audits, coordinating minor repairs, and handling various corporate paperwork.
• Drive store staff efforts to achieve sales and business targets.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support store operations.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience in customer service and retail management.
• Strong eagerness to learn and grow within the pet care industry.
• Friendly and outgoing personality with excellent customer service skills.
• Capability to work scheduled shifts including weekends and evenings with reliable transportation.
• Skill in observing and coaching employees on sales techniques and service excellence.
• Aptitude for recognizing and escalating inter-team conflicts when appropriate.
• Familiarity with POS systems.
• Physical ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
• Previous experience in the pet industry is a valuable asset.
