Job description

Role Overview

Napier City Council seeks a versatile STMS Multiskilled professional to join the Water Services Network Operations team. This hands-on role integrates traffic management duties with three waters infrastructure maintenance, construction, and inspection tasks across the city's water network.

Key Duties

  • Develop and oversee Traffic Management Plans compliant with current standards.
  • Conduct STMS inspections and audits to ensure traffic safety and effectiveness.
  • Offer practical advice on traffic management to team members.
  • Perform inspections, repairs, renewals, and installations related to water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
  • Respond promptly to leaks, blockages, overflows, and other network service issues.
  • Identify, document, and report asset defects, risks, and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain traffic management equipment and vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
  • Assist in operating the hydro excavation unit and provide backup support as necessary.

Candidate Profile

  • Holds a Level 1 STMS qualification.
  • Possesses a full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence.
  • Has knowledge of three waters reticulation systems.
  • Confident in using small machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Familiar with workplace health and safety protocols.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labor and confined-space work.
  • Works cooperatively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Customer service oriented when interacting with coworkers, contractors, and the public.

Additional qualifications such as TTM Planner Category A and B, Class 2 or 4 driver licence, and hydro excavation experience are desirable. Availability for rostered standby and occasional overtime is required.

Employment Details and Benefits

  • Permanent full-time position: 42.5 hours weekly, Monday to Friday.
  • Work location based at Napier City Council's operational depot with fieldwork across the city.
  • Hourly pay range: $34.71 - $36.93 plus KiwiSaver eligibility.
  • Five weeks annual leave after two years of service.
