Overview
This senior position requires a balanced expertise in environmental science, regulation, and practical application. As a Senior Environmental Officer, you will play a pivotal role in helping Napier City Council meet its environmental commitments in stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water management while contributing to future improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead intricate environmental monitoring, investigation, and compliance activities related to Water Services.
- Deliver expert technical guidance on environmental challenges, including regulatory compliance and consent matters.
- Manage data quality controls, reporting processes, and monitoring systems to ensure reliable and defensible results.
- Oversee enforcement strategies and participate in incident responses for complex or sensitive cases, including on-call rotations.
- Support strategic compliance planning and drive continuous advancements in environmental protocols and processes.
- Foster productive relationships within Council, with regulators, and external parties to promote positive environmental impact.
Candidate Profile
- Possession of a relevant tertiary qualification such as environmental science, engineering, resource management, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental compliance, monitoring, or regulatory positions, confidently managing complex situations.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret environmental data and provide clear, actionable advice.
- Sound decision-making abilities with confidence in managing environmental risks.
- Effective communication skills capable of engaging diverse stakeholders credibly and clearly.
- A team-oriented mindset with the capability to support colleagues and take responsibility for key initiatives.

Additional Details
This is a permanent full-time role requiring 40 hours each week, Monday to Friday, based in Napier, New Zealand.
The compensation range for this position is between $93,514 and $104,516 annually, inclusive of KiwiSaver contributions, subject to your expertise and experience.
