Role Overview

We are recruiting a Steward to join our luxury hospitality team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining impeccable cleanliness and sanitation standards across kitchen workstations, equipment, dishware, utensils, and other areas during each shift. The Steward may be called upon to assist with various other tasks or rotate through different departments when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate dishwashing equipment to clean chinaware, silverware, and cooking utensils.
  • Transport cleaned utensils promptly to designated storage locations.
  • Polish and remove tarnish from silverware and kitchen equipment.
  • Prepare function setups and ensure readiness for upcoming shifts.
  • Maintain cleanliness in function areas, promptly returning soiled items to the dishwashing stations.
  • Perform general cleaning duties including mopping floors and trash removal in kitchen areas.
  • Support the Stewarding Supervisor with cleaning tasks across restaurant and banquet kitchens.
  • Adhere to health codes through proper use of cleaning standards and safety practices around machinery.
  • Train new stewards according to company standards.
  • Manage stock and upkeep of supplies and equipment necessary for operations.
  • Regularly clean dish machines to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Handle soaps and cleaning chemicals safely and regularly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace and report any safety hazards to the manager.
  • Comply with all hotel policies and maintain workstation cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Sanitize dish areas, pull mats, sweep and mop floors, and clean coolers and freezers.

Qualifications & Physical Requirements

  • Possession of a Food Handlers Card is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in reading and speaking English to understand job instructions, notices, and event orders.
  • Ability to count service ware during inventory audits (Big Four).
  • Capability to work in varying temperature conditions.
  • Knowledgeable about kitchen equipment maintenance.
  • Previous stewarding experience required; hospitality experience is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is advantageous.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Physical demands include prolonged standing and walking, lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally at shoulder height, pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs at times, and performing repetitive hand and arm motions.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, and navigate uneven surfaces and ladders occasionally.

Compensation

The position offers a base hourly wage of $24.04, with an additional weekend premium of $2.00 per hour for hours worked Friday through Sunday.
