Steward

Position Overview

The Steward role involves operating and maintaining cleaning tools and equipment within the kitchen and storage areas, such as dishwashing machines, hand wash and pot-scrubbing stations, and trash compactors. This position ensures all kitchenware, including dishes, tables, tools, knives, and equipment, are thoroughly washed and sanitized. Inventory tasks include receiving deliveries, proper storage and rotation of perishables, and organizing clean wares correctly.

Core Duties

• Operate cleaning machinery and hand stations efficiently
• Clean and disinfect kitchen surfaces, storage areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment
• Manage stock by receiving deliveries, storing perishables correctly, and rotating items
• Utilize detergent and sanitizing chemicals to clean dishes in a 3-compartment sink
• Inspect and organize cleaned items; resubmit soiled items for further cleaning
• Spray racked items with hot water to loosen food residues
• Sort, soak, and wash silverware, including rewashing as necessary
• Break down and clean bus tubs; maintain trash and dumpster areas
• Clean and mop designated department areas; dispose of glass appropriately
• Recycle cardboard boxes and other recyclable materials
• Adhere to company safety, security policies, and quality standards
• Report maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions promptly
• Maintain professional communication and positive team relations
• Lift, move, and carry objects up to 50 pounds without assistance
• Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods; perform physical movements including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
• Complete other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors

Preferred Qualifications

• No formal education such as high school diploma or GED required
• No previous work experience necessary
• No supervisory experience required
• No certifications or licenses necessary
