Role Overview
The Staff Software Engineer will contribute to Harness Infrastructure as Code Management (IACM), a solution designed to automate, govern, and optimize infrastructure provisioning at scale through deep integration within CI/CD pipelines. IACM uses policy-driven controls and intelligent lifecycle management to deliver secure and compliant cloud infrastructure efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain critical scalable software platform components in a dynamic environment.
- Create software functional specifications and technical design documents.
- Gain a thorough understanding of complex system codebases and take ownership of significant system modules, ensuring high-quality delivery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve challenging issues in distributed computing settings.
- Establish and advocate best practices regarding quality, performance, and architectural design within the team.
- Mentor software engineers and senior engineers, providing technical leadership and guidance.
- Conduct peer reviews of designs, specifications, and code.
- Identify technical debt and scaling challenges, driving codebase improvements.
- Collaborate closely with Site Reliability Engineers and cross-functional groups to diagnose and address production performance problems.
Technical Environment
Development is carried out primarily using Java, Golang, and Python. The platform's infrastructure leverages Docker, Kubernetes, MongoDB, ELK stack, TimescaleDB, Google Cloud Platform services including Stackdriver, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer, and AI Platform.
Candidate Profile
- Strong ambition to create products that resolve complex technical challenges for users.
- Minimum of 7 years experience building highly scalable, distributed applications utilizing Java and Golang.
- Expertise designing and implementing REST, gRPC, and GraphQL APIs.
- Proficient with SQL and NoSQL database systems.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software architecture, paired with strong analytical and debugging capabilities.
- Experience developing SaaS platforms at scale.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to high-quality, result-driven delivery.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is advantageous.
- Holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; advanced degrees or equivalent professional experience are preferred.

This position is based in Belfast with a hybrid work model.
