Position Overview

Avey is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to fully manage and drive product development for its API Gateway and core medical software products. This backend-focused role requires a highly skilled Go developer with solid full-stack capabilities and complete ownership of the product lifecycle. The engineer will lead architecture decisions and deploy systems serving hospitals in the GCC region. The role reports directly to the CTO and executive leadership, and candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of product domains, managing everything from API architecture and design to implementation, production operation, and iterative improvement.
• Deliver new greenfield services and extend existing mature systems powering hospital operations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, DevOps, and InfoSec to transform unclear requirements into secure, operable, and functional features.
• Develop and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services primarily in Go.
• Manage core components of Avey's API Gateway and backend services behind medical products, ensuring precision and reliability.
• Implement frontend features using Next.js, React, and TypeScript when product scope demands end-to-end delivery.
• Ensure production-grade quality through comprehensive testing, system resilience, monitoring, and active participation in on-call rotations.
• Lead technical direction for assigned products, producing clear documentation such as design documents and architectural diagrams.
• Guide and mentor other engineers through design and code reviews, fostering higher engineering standards.

Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years in professional software engineering with significant experience in managing production systems completely.
• Proven expertise in Go, having developed and operated services at production scale, demonstrating mastery of concurrency and performance optimization.
• Experienced with gRPC and Protocol Buffers for inter-service communication.
• Strong track record of designing and running microservices in live environments.
• Comprehensive understanding of the full product development process from scoping to post-launch support.
• Solid grasp of system design principles and distributed system architectures.
• Hands-on use of event-streaming platforms (Kafka or equivalents), caching layers (Redis), and relational databases.
• Competency in full-stack development including frontend technologies Next.js, React, and TypeScript as needed.
• Expertise in testing methodologies including unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing, as well as building resilient and observable systems.
• Strong security awareness including authorization/authentication, secrets management, rate limiting, and API security measures.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices encompassing containerization with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and optionally Kubernetes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare domain technology, specifically HL7, FHIR, HIS/EMR systems, or clinical software.
• Knowledge of implementing payment gateway integrations on regional or global scales.
• Background working in startups or fast-growing scale-ups.
• Experience delivering products compliant with regulations such as GCC standards, HIPAA, or GDPR.
• Familiarity with API gateway concepts including rate limiting, authentication, tenancy management, and versioning.
• Contributions to open-source projects within the Go ecosystem.
