Role Overview

Join the Citizen Developers Infrastructure team, a unit within the Infrastructure & Productivity division, which develops and maintains the internal platform enabling non-engineering teams to easily create and operate workflow automations safely. This role involves designing and implementing platform services that support Airwallex’s citizen-developer ecosystem and internal workflow automation, ensuring security, compliance, scalability, and excellent developer experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the citizen-developer platform to facilitate creation and management of automations without deep infrastructure expertise.
• Implement secure software development lifecycle and regulatory guardrails by default for applications built by citizen developers.
• Build self-service tools for development and operations to minimize reliance on central platform engineers.
• Design, operate, and scale the Temporal-powered workflow infrastructure addressing multi-tenant environments, high availability, and cost concerns.
• Contribute to the Kubernetes and GitOps foundations using ArgoCD, Helm, and Terraform to ensure safe, repeatable, and auditable deployments.
• Engage in code reviews, architecture discussions, and participate in on-call rotations to handle workflow service incidents and lead long-term improvements.
• Create and maintain documentation of standards, best practices, and reference architectures for platform users.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a backend platform engineer who is passionate about building shared platforms focused on developer experience and reliability. You enjoy enabling other teams to innovate rapidly and safely through elegant abstractions, tooling, and guardrails. Comfortable working across application code and infrastructure, you thrive in collaborative, multi-team environments, simplifying complex technical problems into practical solutions.

Qualifications

• Over 6 years of professional experience in software or platform engineering roles developing and maintaining backend or platform services in production environments.
• Strong proficiency in at least one statically-typed backend language such as Golang or Java, with working knowledge of scripting languages like Python or Bash for automation.
• Hands-on experience creating internal platforms or developer tooling leveraged by multiple teams with a focus on developer usability.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and GitOps tooling and practices, notably ArgoCD and Terraform.
• Experience developing platforms or tooling targeted at non-technical users (e.g., operations, finance, analysts) or in low-code/no-code citizen developer scenarios is highly valued.
• Proven expertise with Temporal or analogous workflow orchestration systems like Cadence, Step Functions, Airflow, or experience with large-scale stateful systems (e.g., Redis clusters, Cassandra, HBase) is a strong advantage.
• Excellent communication skills to translate platform constraints into clean APIs and frameworks for application teams and citizen developers.
• Ability to tackle ambiguous challenges proactively, break down complex issues, and drive them to resolution.
