Role Overview

The Staff Software Engineer position is situated within the Unified Access and Lifecycle Services team, part of the Growth Engineering division. This team develops high-performance, highly available services essential to SiriusXM's user experience, supporting tens of millions of listeners across North America on platforms such as SiriusXM and Pandora.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a collaborative engineering team spread across Europe, including Spain and the UK.
• Partner closely with other service teams, Client SDK developers, data engineers, and analytics professionals.
• Design innovative, scalable, and efficient software solutions that meet evolving business needs, including the creation of architecture documentation and technical briefings as required.
• Promote and uphold exemplary engineering practices and a positive team culture.
• Guide architectural discussions and strategic planning at a senior level.
• Simplify complex challenges with straightforward and effective solutions.
• Maintain code quality through comprehensive reviews and constructive feedback.
• Demonstrate personal and team accountability in project delivery.
• Compose and critique technical proposals and root cause analyses.
• Investigate and recommend new technologies to address strategic challenges.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least seven years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Scala programming and functional programming concepts.
• Strong experience designing and deploying RESTful APIs within enterprise environments.
• Thorough understanding of software development lifecycle processes, including source control, CI/CD pipelines, and diverse testing methodologies.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, with a track record supporting high-throughput production systems.
• Practical experience using AWS services for compute, databases, storage, containers, and serverless components in production.
• Familiarity with asynchronous programming paradigms, particularly on JVM-based platforms supporting scalable systems.
• Balanced and pragmatic evaluation of engineering decisions aligned with business priorities.
• A persistent curiosity to understand underlying system requirements and motivations.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability beyond deployment.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
