Position Summary

As a Staff Software Engineer within the Cloud Engineering team, you will design and build a secure, scalable, and reliable multi-cloud platform that underpins Harness's SaaS and Self-Managed offerings. The role involves creating cloud-native infrastructure, leveraging open-source technologies, and delivering common services across CI/CD, observability, security, disaster recovery, and operational tooling. You will be a key technical leader responsible for architecture, complex problem-solving, mentoring, and collaborating across product and engineering teams to deliver scalable, efficient solutions. Operational excellence in automation, monitoring, disaster preparedness, and cost optimization is a critical focus.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate scalable, secure cloud infrastructure on platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Develop infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to maintain service reliability, availability, and performance.
• Create and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for proactive issue detection.
• Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to ensure system scalability.
• Manage application deployments and scaling using Kubernetes and Helm.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery and infrastructure changes.
• Develop automation scripts and tools to enhance operational efficiency.
• Ensure all cloud components and applications meet security and compliance standards through audits and best practices.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including developers, product managers, and operations personnel.
• Mentor junior engineers, driving adoption of best engineering practices and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Over 7 years of experience in cloud or site reliability engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong expertise with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
• Proficient in infrastructure-as-code tools including Terraform and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Experienced with Helm for Kubernetes package management.
• Knowledge of AI-OPS practices.
• Solid understanding and practical experience with SRE concepts such as error budgets, SLIs, SLOs, and incident management.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Google Cloud Monitoring.
• Hands-on experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, or Harness.
• Competent programming skills in languages like Python and Go, with experience using Git for version control.
• Awareness of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements including ISO 27001, SOC 2, or PCI DSS is advantageous.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills with a proactive mindset.
