Staff Software Engineer

Role Overview

This senior-level Software Engineer position involves developing, testing, and deploying highly performant and scalable applications that serve millions of Walmart International customers, specifically in supply chain management and customer experience domains.

Team Context

The team collaborates closely with Walmart International, which operates over 5,900 retail outlets across 26 countries on multiple continents, including regions such as Africa, Asia, and North and South America.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, test, and deployinnovative large-scale software solutions affecting millions globally.
• Participate actively in agile teams, contributing and sharing cutting-edge ideas collaboratively.
• Work alongside skilled engineers and product leaders in designing and evolving web and mobile applications.
• Operate as a product-focused Full Stack Developer, experimenting with new ideas to enhance customer engagement.
• Lead product delivery efforts by mentoring junior developers and ensuring excellence in execution.
• Collaborate with engineering teams in various locations to share knowledge and foster the technical community.
• Conduct root cause analysis for application issues to inform business decisions and enhance technology.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field with over 12 years of professional experience.
• Extensive understanding and implementation experience of Microservices architecture and RESTful web services.
• Advanced proficiency in Java programming along with deep knowledge of JVM internals such as concurrency and multithreading.
• Strong skills in Java and Spring framework development, including Spring Boot and Hibernate.
• Broad practical experience with Java/J2EE, JAX technologies.
• Solid foundation in core computer science topics including algorithms, data structures, and database/SQL concepts.
• Hands-on experience with storage technologies like Cosmos DB, Elastic Search, Hive, Cassandra, Hadoop, and Kafka is advantageous.
• Proven background in cloud-based development.
  
• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript, CSS3, AJAX, React/React Native, Redux, GraphQL, Webpack, and Node.js is a plus.
• Experience designing scalable and highly available distributed systems in production environments.
• Knowledge of stream processing frameworks and Kafka technology.
• Expertise in software engineering best practices including implementing continuous integration/deployment pipelines and production monitoring/logging systems.
• Strong capabilities in production support tasks such as diagnosing and resolving issues.

Minimum Qualifications

• Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus 4 years of software engineering experience.
• Option 2: At least 6 years of software engineering experience without the degree requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of software engineering experience.
