About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Staff Site Reliability Expert to join our Platform team based in Auckland. This position involves shaping the design, operation, and reliability of scalable AWS-based systems, improving developer experiences, and enabling product teams to build and maintain robust products. You'll have the autonomy to handle complex challenges, guide technical strategy across multiple teams, and enhance the resilience, scalability, and efficiency of our platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve strategies around infrastructure reliability, developer tools, and platform features.
- Architect, build, and manage automated AWS infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Develop tools and services to empower product engineers for independent deployment and management.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design systems that are resilient, secure, and cost-efficient.
- Enhance engineering workflows and delivery methodologies across diverse distributed teams.
- Lead initiatives in system observability, high availability, incident response, and disaster recovery.
- Apply systems thinking to troubleshoot intricate issues, oversee incident management, and implement long-term solutions.
- Mentor fellow engineers, promote reliability best practices, and participate in the on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience managing highly available, scalable production environments on AWS.
- Background in SaaS or product-led companies with ability to work cross-functionally and adapt to evolving situations.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and configuration management systems.
- Solid experience working with container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, and Linux operating systems.
- Competent coding skills in Python, Ruby, or Go, complemented by advanced shell scripting.
- Familiarity with observability frameworks, incident response, disaster recovery processes, and security standards.
- Experience working with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, or DynamoDB alongside cloud cost optimization techniques.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies, continuous delivery, testing practices, and strong communication, judgment, and prioritization skills.
