Role Overview

The Staff Mobile Engineer joining the Global Retail team will influence how customers browse and purchase a wide variety of products—ranging from apparel to electronics—via mobile applications used by millions. This position focuses primarily on iOS development, with experience in Android highly valued. The role involves enhancing and replacing parts of large-scale B2C apps, requiring collaboration across multiple teams owning different app segments.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex, cross-functional projects from conceptualization through launch and maintenance, collaborating with product, design, and business teams to achieve measurable results.
• Develop native iOS and Android features within shared consumer apps, ensuring balance between quality, speed, and maintainability.
• Contribute to and advance server-driven UI strategies by designing adaptable, component-based views beyond traditional UI implementation.
• Proactively establish and uphold engineering standards concerning architecture, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident management, focusing on scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Promote AI-driven tools and methodologies to accelerate mobile development without compromising quality.
• Effectively communicate complex technical decisions to diverse stakeholders with clear timelines and trade-off analyses that enable predictable delivery.
• Mentor other engineers, including those new to mobile development, and foster a positive engineering culture emphasizing best practices.

Candidate Profile

• Strong expertise in mobile development, especially within the iOS ecosystem, including performance tuning, observability, modular design, SDK architecture, server-driven UI, CI/CD pipelines, and app store processes.
• Proven experience operating at a Staff Engineer level or equivalent, successfully leading initiatives spanning multiple teams or organizations.
• Background in building and maintaining large-scale native consumer applications in environments where app ownership is divided among teams by features or verticals.
• A pragmatic, results-focused approach with a preference for simple, effective solutions; adept at navigating ambiguity and driving clarity and execution in dynamic business contexts.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to align and influence key stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring engineers and actively supporting a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
• Practical use of AI tools as part of the software engineering process, with an understanding of quality validation and prudent skepticism regarding AI outputs.
• Familiarity with Android development is advantageous.
