Staff Engineer - AI Platform and Enablement

Role Overview

This hybrid position is based in our Cork office and entails a strategic engineering leadership role to embed AI across all facets of the company, impacting engineering, business units, and corporate functions. The incumbent will possess extensive experience and thrive where AI infrastructure, developer support, and business enablement intersect.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the AI and large language model platform, including model routing, fallback mechanisms, API gateway strategies, rate limiting, and integrating multiple AI providers like Anthropic and OpenAI.
• Optimize organizational AI expenditure through careful model selection, efficient prompt and context management, caching strategies, and session cost controls.
• Implement evaluation tools, observability, and monitoring systems for AI-driven features, ensuring quality and usage analytics.
• Define secure, scalable architectures and standards for integrating AI into products and internal systems, focusing on authentication, data management, and compliance.
• Facilitate adoption of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Cursor throughout engineering teams by creating supportive tooling, safeguards, and workflows.
• Develop best practices, training resources, and documentation to elevate AI literacy among engineering staff.
• Collaborate with business and corporate units (Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales, People, Legal) to identify meaningful AI use cases for everyday tasks.
• Analyze and streamline existing workflows before automating to eliminate redundant steps and create effective AI-driven processes.
• Design AI solutions accessible to non-technical users, including specialized agents, connectors, and internal apps that build trust and simplify adoption.
• Create scalable AI enablement frameworks with reusable templates, onboarding materials, office hours, and cross-functional communities of practice.
• Translate business challenges into actionable technical designs and clearly communicate technical constraints and risks to functional leaders.
• Lead technical initiatives that harmonize platform infrastructure, developer tools, business processes, and product engineering in alignment with company AI strategy.
• Oversee architecture and code reviews, system debugging, and continuous improvement efforts across multiple platform layers.
• Mentor engineers and functional leaders working with AI tools, fostering a culture of technical excellence and ethical AI use.
• Set and monitor objectives with measurable outcomes related to AI-driven productivity and cost-efficient solutions, reporting quarterly progress.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience with a strong record of leading impactful technical projects.
• Practical expertise in deploying production systems using LLM APIs like Anthropic or OpenAI, including advanced prompt engineering and agent workflows.
• Proven ability to deconstruct complex business or legacy processes into clear, reliable, and automatable components.
• Experience collaborating directly with non-technical stakeholders to deliver user-adopted technologies.
• Track record optimizing costs, performance, and reliability in cloud or distributed system environments, influencing business outcomes through technology.
• Background in developing or managing internal developer platforms, shared APIs, or infrastructures supporting multiple teams.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and enthusiasm for organization-wide scaling.
• Strong architectural design skills encompassing distributed systems, observability solutions, and secure API frameworks.
• Programming proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or comparable languages suited for tooling and platform development.
• History of defining and executing platform or enablement strategies rather than solely building isolated features.
• Effective communication skills, capable of conveying technical direction to diverse audiences and presenting to leadership.
• Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks and Model Context Protocol (MCP) or related tooling paradigms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in enterprise business process automation, robotic process automation, and integration across enterprise applications such as ERP, CRM, finance, or supply chain systems.
• Expertise in continuous integration and deployment automation, particularly for AI and machine learning workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Hands-on with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and cloud-native architectural patterns.
• Knowledge of data engineering, machine learning operations, and evaluation frameworks involving LLMs.
• Experience integrating AI in diverse environments including mobile, web, and embedded systems.
