The Staff Data Engineer will join our expanding Data team to build and maintain a scalable analytics infrastructure that influences strategic decisions across products and operational units. The role involves refining data modeling standards, enforcing governance, and enabling deeper analytics, including launching distributor benchmarks and enabling AI-powered query capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical projects end-to-end by applying strong software design principles and transforming raw transactional data into well-architected star schemas reflecting key domain areas such as orders, distributors, suppliers, and financial workflows.
- Ensure data reliability by proactively identifying and resolving slow queries, unoptimized data transformations, and testing gaps, while managing automated data synchronization and adapting to schema changes as the business evolves.
- Develop and maintain canonical metrics within dbt data marts to guarantee consistent and trusted data sources for all Metabase visualizations.
- Create accessible Snowflake and Metabase layers that empower team members to perform self-service analytics and personally handle complex exploratory data analysis.
- Mentor and support engineers and analysts through constructive reviews, guidance, and collaboration with product leads and engineering managers to align technical goals with strategic priorities.
- Utilize AI development tools such as Cursor, CodeRabbit, and Claude to enhance productivity while maintaining quality and rigor in the development process, serving as a role model in adopting AI innovations.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or related roles, preferably within SaaS or product-focused companies.
- Expertise in SQL, dbt, and cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, along with proficiency in Python for analytics tooling and automation tasks.
- Strong knowledge of dimensional data modeling, relational databases, ETL/ELT pipelines (e.g., managed ingestion with Fivetran), and designing BI solutions for self-service use.
- Demonstrated mentorship experience fostering a healthy, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.
- A mindset balancing technical excellence with practical business considerations, accompanied by empathy for customers and desire for continuous improvement.
- Experience and enthusiasm for using AI-assisted development tools and Snowflake AI tooling to accelerate business solutions.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this role is CAD 160,000 to CAD 180,000 annually, with new hires generally positioned near the midpoint based on experience and skills. Candidates with different compensation expectations are encouraged to apply and discuss options.

Location and Eligibility
