Team and Role Overview

The Knowledge Platform team spearheads Airwallex's data and AI initiatives by constructing foundational infrastructure for company-wide data use and governance. As a Staff Data Engineer based in Singapore, you'll architect and develop scalable data pipelines and models essential to multiple teams and domains. Working cross-functionally, you will convert complex data requirements into dependable structures, drive projects from design through maintenance, and set high technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop strong, scalable data models that support BI, ML, and operational functions.
• Apply deep expertise in data schema design (star, snowflake, normalized, denormalized) tailored to business needs.
• Collaborate with business units to translate data requirements into clear, documented data structures.
• Ensure Single Source of Truth (SSOT) principles are upheld across data layers and pipelines.
• Manage data integrity, quality, and traceability across multiple sources and domains.
• Construct and maintain batch and streaming ETL workflows, understanding full data cycles from ingestion to delivery.
• Partner with Data Platform Engineers and Product Managers to quickly resolve data issues with effective, scalable fixes.
• Experience handling multi-datacenter distributed data challenges like migration and consistency is a plus.
• Contribute actively to data governance frameworks addressing quality, stewardship, metadata, master data, privacy/security, and lifecycle management.
• Explore synergies between data engineering and AI, deploying creative and practical solutions integrating both.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Mathematics, or related discipline.
• At least 7 years' extensive experience creating and managing ETL pipelines with emphasis on scalability and reliability.
• Hands-on experience with real-time data processing technologies such as Apache Kafka or Apache Flink.
• Strong command of SQL and familiarity with database systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle and data warehousing solutions.
• Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Databricks, and Airflow within modern data infrastructures.
• A clear understanding of data governance principles and financial industry regulatory compliance.
• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and quality-oriented mindset.
• Excellent communication and collaboration aptitude, thriving in fast-paced, globally distributed teams.
• Preferred: Experience in financial services or fintech, proficiency with scripting languages (Python, R), and data management certifications.
