Job description
The Role
As a Staff Engineer specializing in CPU architecture, you will lead the development of architectural and micro-architectural specifications for a variety of advanced out-of-order superscalar CPU cores intended for next-generation System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions. Your focus will be on maximizing both performance and efficiency in terms of power and area.
This senior position requires deep expertise in out-of-order superscalar CPU design, coherency in multi-core environments, and performance evaluation of workloads.
You will engage collaboratively with architectural, design, and software teams as well as other stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create detailed CPU core specifications for use by design teams and associated stakeholders, as well as lead specification reviews.
- Work closely with other architects to enhance CPU system performance, collaborating with teams that develop tightly integrated accelerators, SoC definitions, and software groups.
- Utilize simulators and modeling tools to analyze workloads focusing on power consumption and performance, including exploring design tradeoffs through "what if" analysis.
- Partner with design and verification teams during implementation, including decisions related to power consumption and manufacturing processes.
- Investigate future-generation requirements and features to support upcoming products.
Required Qualifications
- Over 10 years of proven experience leading architectural work in out-of-order superscalar CPU design with demonstrated successful delivery.
- Expert knowledge of CPU micro-architecture, memory hierarchy, and multi-core coherency mechanisms.
- Strong grasp of SoC design principles, including integration of CPUs, closely coupled accelerators, and memory subsystems.
- Substantial experience in advanced functional and performance simulation for architecture research, validation, and workload performance projection.
- Additional beneficial skills include:
- Familiarity with the RISC-V architecture and associated hardware/software considerations.
- Experience with closely integrated accelerators.
- Knowledge of AI/ML software frameworks and their adaptation onto hardware platforms.
Soft Skills
The ideal candidate is a cooperative team player who prioritizes collective success over individual achievements. Effective communication, mutual respect, and constructive challenges within the team are key. You enjoy contributing to a positive work culture while striving to deliver excellent products for customers.
