Role Overview

The Senior Principal Product Manager for Software and Digital Platforms acts as a key individual contributor responsible for defining product direction, translating market and business needs into actionable product requirements, and aligning cross-functional teams including engineering and program management. This position bridges vertical market teams with software, digital, and AI development units.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with marketing, engineering, and customers to convert business demands into clear product requirements focusing on "what" to build and the reasons behind it.
  • Establish product scope, identify use cases, prioritize features, and validate technical requirements with engineering teams for software and digital platform solutions.
  • Work hand-in-hand with software, embedded, system, and hardware engineers to refine needs, address compromises, and ensure solutions are scalable and reusable across markets.
  • Contribute to developing and prioritizing product roadmaps balancing customer needs, strategic objectives, technical feasibility, and resource availability.
  • Prepare business cases and assist in scoping projects including development effort, costs, lifecycle impacts, and potential for platform reuse.
  • Manage the entire product lifecycle from concept through launch, support, and retirement ensuring readiness and adoption plans.
  • Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to gather feedback, evaluate suitability, and guide product evolution based on application demands and competition.
  • Collaborate with program management and development teams during planning and execution cycles, offering priority guidance and visibility into risks and dependencies.
  • Shape platform strategies to standardize components, improve developer experience, and advance reusability across embedded software and digital assets.
  • Work alongside business unit applications, marketing, and enablement teams to ensure product positioning, documentation, and collateral clearly articulate value and technical capabilities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with business unit application teams to incorporate customer experience and product readiness into planning stages.
  • Understand architectural decisions and validation requirements with embedded software and systems teams to ensure informed product choices.
  • Support market launch readiness by aligning documentation, evaluation tools, and customer materials with roadmap and release goals.
  • Drive resolution and prioritization of issues among development, applications, and support groups throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline; advanced degrees or MBA advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in product management, systems engineering, applications engineering or similar roles with embedded systems exposure.
  • Proven track record in managing or defining products featuring embedded software, firmware, or software-enabled hardware platforms.
  • Practical knowledge of embedded software development processes, software lifecycle, and interactions between firmware, drivers, middleware, hardware, and end-user applications.
  • Capability to translate customer and market needs into precise product requirements and lead diverse teams towards execution alignment.
  • Strong aptitude for technical and business judgment, prioritizing features, balancing tradeoffs, and contributing to business case formulation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills with influence across teams without direct authority.
  • In-depth understanding of competitive landscape, customer workflows, and evolving software platform trends in embedded and digital domains.

Compensation: New hires can expect salaries between $184,030 and $266,485, with actual wages dependent on location, experience, education, and other factors. The role offers a discretionary performance-based bonus and comprehensive benefits including medical, vision, dental, 401k, paid time off, and more.
