Job description
Overview
This permanent, full-time position is based at the Henderson Office/West Auckland Centre. The role involves contributing significantly to the regional Learning Support team by addressing the communication needs of children and young people within their homes, educational environments, and communities. You will collaborate closely with families, educators, and other professionals to facilitate development in speech, language, and communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and understand how communication challenges impact children and young people's daily lives and learning contexts.
- Partner with parents, caregivers, teachers, and allied specialists to support communication skills development.
- Engage effectively as a member of a trans-disciplinary team for children with complex needs.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification recognized by the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists’ Association.
- Expertise in speech-language theory, child and human development, learning, and behavior research and practices.
- Ability to practically apply specialist knowledge to real-world scenarios.
- Competency in coordinating services within multi-agency, trans-disciplinary frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to work effectively across diverse populations and settings with children, families, and educators.
- Commitment to understanding and implementing the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
- Adherence to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About the Team
The role is situated within the Education Services Group (Te Mahau) which provides integrated support services aiming to enhance educational participation and achievement. The group focuses on practice guidance, integration and delivery of support to educational settings, and monitoring plus improvement measures to ensure effectiveness and equity.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this role ranges from $69,966 to $106,016 per year, supplemented by KiwiSaver contributions. Placement within this range is dependent on individual experience and qualifications.
