Role Overview
The Sorter position is a full-time onsite role based in Melbourne, VIC. The individual will be responsible for methodically sorting, arranging, and labeling parcels and freight aligned with delivery routes, destinations, and handling protocols. Daily duties include unloading and loading items from pallets or containers, allocating goods to designated areas, verifying items against documentation, and reporting any discrepancies or damage to supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Unload and load parcels and freight from pallets or containers accurately.
- Sort and organize items according to delivery routes and destinations.
- Label goods properly consistent with handling requirements.
- Check goods against shipment documents and note any discrepancies or damage.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of the work space.
- Follow established safety guidelines and manual handling procedures at all times.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and drivers to optimize warehouse processes.
- Endure extended standing periods and perform repetitive lifting within safety limits.
Requirements
- Strong attention to detail ensuring precise sorting and organization of parcels.
- Ability to safely conduct manual handling tasks including lifting and moving items.
- Basic literacy and numeracy for following labels, manifests, and instructions.
- Dependability, punctuality, and ability to function well in a fast-paced team atmosphere.
- Commitment to adhering to health and safety regulations and usage of protective gear.
- Prior experience in warehousing, logistics, or freight handling is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Flexibility to work full-time shifts including potential early mornings, evenings, or weekends depending on operational demands.
