Software Engineering Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Manager for Software Engineering within Core Technology at a prominent financial technology firm. This role involves leading and growing a high-performing engineering team managing a suite of essential cloud-based applications. You will collaborate closely with product owners and architecture leaders to set priorities and drive successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee a software engineering team focused on developing scalable, secure, and resilient web applications.
• Take ownership of the technical delivery for a portfolio of critical business applications and services.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and senior stakeholders to convert strategic objectives into prioritized technical roadmaps and executable delivery plans.
• Promote and implement modern engineering practices including development, testing, deployment, and operational excellence.
• Support architecture and delivery of cloud-native, microservices-oriented solutions.
• Manage mentorship, career growth, performance, and engagement of engineering personnel.
• Lead recruitment efforts to foster a diverse, inclusive, and high-achieving engineering culture.
• Ensure adoption of industry best practices such as CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code, and container technologies.
• Work closely with distributed teams and stakeholders in multiple locations.
• Balance and address priorities related to delivery timelines, technical quality, risk, and operational aspects across various workstreams.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or closely related fields.
• At least 7 years of software engineering experience, with a background in building secure, scalable, and resilient web applications.
• Minimum of 5 years managing software engineering teams directly.
• Strong practical knowledge in frontend and backend software development.
• Experience with cloud-based applications in contemporary engineering settings.
• Good comprehension of microservices architectures, cloud deployment models, and API-centric systems.
• Proven track record delivering applications that are mission-critical and highly available.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure automation, and containerization.
• Demonstrated ability in hiring, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
• Excellent stakeholder communication, coordination, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience managing remote or geographically dispersed teams is a plus.

Remuneration and Benefits

• Competitive base salary ranging from €80,000 to €85,000 per year.
