About the Role
This role is for an experienced Software Engineering Manager who will drive engineering productivity initiatives for Google One and Photos teams. The position involves leading and mentoring software engineers, overseeing project execution, contributing to product strategies, and optimizing both individual and team outputs. You will work closely with teams engaged in diverse technological domains including AI, distributed systems, and user interface design, managing large-scale deployments across multiple locations globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and clearly communicate team priorities aligned with organizational objectives to ensure strategic coordination across teams.
- Set performance expectations tailored to individual roles; conduct regular one-on-one meetings to review progress, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth.
- Develop and maintain mid-term technical roadmaps covering multiple teams, continually adapting plans to future infrastructure and technical requirements.
- Lead the architectural design process and review complex system designs within the broader domain while also contributing code to address intricate challenges.
- Conduct thorough code reviews to uphold high development standards including adherence to style guides, code accuracy, maintainability, and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years in software development, including at least 3 years focused on developer tools such as compilers, automated releases, testing automation frameworks, and code design.
- 3 years in a technical leadership capacity, guiding engineering teams.
- At least 2 years managing people or leading teams.
- Preferred: Master's or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
- Preferred: 3 years of experience navigating complex, matrixed organizational structures.
