The Role
We seek a capable Software Development Manager to lead influential teams in the PlayStation SDK Developer Host Tools division. This role requires a balanced leader able to manage a high-performing team while maintaining strong technical expertise to guide architectural decisions, review designs, and assist engineers with coding issues when necessary.
The position involves working across backend distributed systems and web or native frontends, creating technically robust and user-friendly solutions for developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentor, motivate, and develop a team of engineers, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
- Participate in technical discussions, conduct code reviews, and contribute to system design.
- Collaborate with various groups and teams across different time zones.
- Execute team objectives in line with the established plans and long-term goals.
- Manage daily tasks while maintaining focus on strategic priorities.
- Champion a developer-centric approach emphasizing usability, performance, and reliability.
- Identify obstacles and ambiguities, assisting in clarifying and resolving them effectively.
Required Qualifications
- 7 to 10 years of software engineering experience including 3 to 5 years managing engineering teams.
- Strong technical foundation with in-depth knowledge of backend and platform fundamentals.
- Capability to work directly with code, offering design reviews, debugging support, and engineering guidance.
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex distributed systems.
- Successful track record of building and scaling high-performance engineering teams.
- Background working on developer tools, internal platforms, or productivity systems.
- Effective influencer with ability to align stakeholders across different teams.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
Preferred Skills
- Strong understanding of frontend technologies such as JavaScript, React, and React Native.
- Experience or familiarity with AI/ML-driven workflows or developer tooling.
- Knowledge of performance profiling and developer ecosystem tools.
- Proficiency in C# and .NET framework technologies.
- Experience with low-level programming languages like Rust and C++.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary for this role ranges from €96,900 to €145,300 EUR annually and is influenced by market data, geographic location, and individual qualifications. The role includes eligibility for a comprehensive benefits package with paid time off, wellness programs, employee discounts on Sony products, and potentially a bonus package.
