Gallagher is dedicated to ‘Protect what matters most’, committing to secure high-security and agricultural environments globally. With operations spanning New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Africa, USA, Canada, and Europe, Gallagher exports to over 140 countries and supports global career development locally in New Zealand. As the company embraces rapid growth, especially in its Hamilton-based teams, this is an exciting chance to join a Kiwi tech powerhouse making global impacts.

The Software Engineering Lead will play a vital leadership role within Gallagher Security's expanding Platform Portfolio. This position demands a blend of hands-on technical leadership, people management, and accountability for consistent delivery of secure, scalable, reliable, and quality software solutions. The role requires influence over team workflows, technical decision-making, and fostering an environment where engineering capabilities can scale sustainably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical direction for a specific engineering discipline within the Platform Portfolio, encompassing design, architecture, delivery, risk, quality assurance, and lifecycle management.
  • Enhance engineering capabilities by coaching, mentoring, setting clear expectations, delivering constructive feedback, and supporting career and development planning.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, UX/UI Design, Architecture, Platform, DevOps, Security, and other engineering teams to ensure delivery of secure, scalable, and high-quality products.
  • Guide teams to make well-balanced technical decisions considering delivery timelines, quality, risk factors, cost efficiency, compliance, and maintainability.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement in engineering practices, automation, standards adherence, and overall team effectiveness.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader or a senior engineer aspiring to advance into leadership. They possess strong engineering judgement and curiosity, confidently guiding others through technical challenges, prioritization, and organizational change. They thrive in ambiguous environments by improving visibility of work, removing obstacles, and enabling predictable delivery while fostering growth and excellence within their teams. Collaboration and clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Extensive full-stack engineering experience with deep expertise in a core technical discipline and capability to navigate related technologies.
  • Proven success in leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers through clear expectations and supportive feedback.
  • Ability to balance technical excellence alongside delivery requirements, quality, risk management, cost constraints, compliance, and long-term sustainability.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, collaboration, and influence skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • A dedication to continuous improvement, demonstrated curiosity for emerging tools, automation, updated standards, modern engineering practices, and industry trends.

Working at Gallagher

Gallagher fosters innovation by empowering talented individuals to pursue meaningful work within a highly collaborative and forward-thinking atmosphere. This role presents an opportunity to shape engineering approaches, drive growth and delivery excellence, and support people, teams, and products to flourish.

  • Modern technology workspace at Innovation Park featuring on-site free parking and diverse dining options.
  • Life and disability insurance providing extra security.
