About Appear and Role Context
Appear is innovating the infrastructure that enables brands to be recognized by advanced AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini. The company operates at the cutting edge of AI citation technology, aiming to help brands increase their visibility in AI-driven search results—a category that did not exist just two years ago. This fast-growing startup is seeking a Software Engineer who can navigate the challenge of selling novel solutions in an emerging field.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy customer-facing features throughout the Appear platform.
- Create backend infrastructure to efficiently serve content to AI crawlers and agents.
- Implement integrations with DNS systems, CNAME records, Content Management Systems (CMS), APIs, and edge computing platforms.
- Build and maintain analytics capabilities for monitoring crawler activity, AI visibility, citation tracking, web traffic, and conversion metrics.
- Enhance the platform’s reliability, security posture, scalability, and overall performance.
- Transform customer implementation challenges into standardized, repeatable product functionalities.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years’ professional software engineering experience or equivalent proven ability in building production-ready systems.
- Proficient in developing backend services, APIs, web applications, or distributed systems.
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, or a comparable language.
- Deep understanding of HTTP protocols, API design, databases, caching mechanisms, and modern web infrastructure components.
- Capability to handle ambiguous problem statements and deliver solutions from concept through deployment.
- Excellent product insight combined with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, early-stage environment requiring practical decision-making and trade-offs.
Additional Advantages
Experience with Cloudflare Workers, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), DNS management, reverse proxies, web crawling technology, AI agents, analytics platforms, React, or B2B SaaS products is advantageous but not mandatory.
