Role Overview

The Information Division at DSO focuses on technologies enabling the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to leverage information in both physical and cyber battlefields. This includes specializations such as cybersecurity, cryptography, data analytics, AI, vulnerability assessments, and operations analysis.

Software Engineers in this division design advanced computing clusters to enhance computational efficiency and collaborate with multidisciplinary research scientists to create innovative full-stack software solutions with capabilities spanning digital and physical realms. Besides software development, they contribute expertise in software engineering processes, methodologies, and tools.

Position Responsibilities

• Collaborate within a dynamic team to design, optimize, deploy, and maintain high-performance computing clusters ensuring operational efficiency.
• Partner with data engineers to create robust ETL pipelines for seamless data integration and processing.
• Manage the entire software development lifecycle for full-stack solutions: gathering requirements, coding, testing, deployment, and iterative enhancement aligned with user and mission needs.
• Design scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable modern software architectures, providing software design and programming expertise to research initiatives.
• Implement and refine algorithms in partnership with research scientists.
• Develop and maintain DevOps/DevSecOps pipelines, test environments, and simulators to facilitate software verification and validation, deploying cutting-edge technologies into production.
• Coordinate integration testing with scientists and end-users across various programs and organizations, including laboratory and potentially field environments.

Qualifications and Skills Required

• Possession of a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in designing and managing large-scale computing clusters.
• Proficiency with cluster management platforms like Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Comprehensive understanding of distributed computing technologies such as Apache Hadoop or Apache Spark.
• Knowledge of networking concepts, storage solutions, and server infrastructure.
• Experience programming in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, Bash, or Powershell.
• Strong foundation in Object-Oriented Analysis and Design principles.
• Keen interest in developing secure server-client systems.
• Experience with software testing and DevOps/DevSecOps practices will be advantageous.
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineers from diverse disciplines and maintain an open-minded approach.
• Interest or experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, or Full-Stack Development is valued.
