Job description

Position Overview

We offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer III to join our agile team within Trading Technology. This role involves creating and delivering reliable, scalable, and secure technology products that support our firm's strategic goals across multiple business functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with fellow technologists to develop and deploy applications that fulfill business and functional requirements.
  • Design and implement Java-based microservices, utilizing streaming, non-blocking, and reactive programming paradigms, guided by senior team members.
  • Build and maintain scalable services employing technologies like Kafka, IBM MQ, Kubernetes, Redis cache, MSK, and AWS.
  • Advocate and contribute to domain-driven design and participate actively in architectural discussions.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation such as service APIs using Swagger, and implement monitoring, security, logging, and auditability features.
  • Engage in API design meetings and participate in assessing design patterns presented by the team.
  • Develop test cases using Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) methodologies; actively participate in code reviews as both reviewer and reviewee.
  • Conduct scalability validation via mock testing frameworks and other diagnostic tools.
  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI coding assistant tools to elevate code quality, accelerate delivery, and boost productivity, validating outputs through peer reviews, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
  • Utilize tools from the software development lifecycle toolchain, including AI-enabled automation, to maximize efficiency and value.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Competent in Java programming with a self-assessed skill rating of at least 5/10 and a proactive coding mindset.
  • Formal software engineering training and certifications complemented by over three years of practical experience.
  • Exposure to distributed systems architecture that handles large data volumes or real-time data dissemination.
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and DevOps toolchains alongside agile development practices with a test-driven focus.
  • Familiarity with mid-tier caching technologies such as Redis, Gemfire, or Apache Ignite, and messaging systems like Kafka or IBM MQ is advantageous.
  • Understanding of contemporary architectural concepts including microservices, RESTful APIs, SQL and NoSQL databases, and event-driven design.
  • Proven practical experience utilizing enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software tools for coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation, with the ability to critically appraise AI-generated deliverables for accuracy, efficiency, and security compliance.
  • Knowledge of responsible AI usage protocols within engineering workflows, emphasizing data privacy, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resilience and security standards; capable of mentoring colleagues in best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the Spring framework and cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Familiarity with financial trading systems and FIX protocol offers a competitive edge.
  • A problem-solving attitude for tackling complex challenges with mentor support.
  • A dedication to continuous learning and adopting emerging technologies and methodologies as the domain evolves.
