About Cloudera and the Role
Cloudera is a leader in data platform solutions, powering organizations to convert complex data into clear insights. Our team handles data at hyperscale levels and collaborates actively with the open-source community. We are searching for a dedicated Software Engineer II to join our Storage Engineering team working on Apache Ozone, a scalable distributed object storage system designed to surpass traditional Hadoop Distributed File System limitations.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement key features in Apache Ozone and Apache Ratis, the open-source RAFT protocol implementation.
- Contribute to HDFS development, which supports more than a thousand customers worldwide.
- Play a pivotal role in innovating within distributed storage, influencing big data and cloud computing sectors significantly.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science.
- Relevant industry experience in software engineering.
- Strong proficiency in backend development using Java or alternatively strong C++ with intermediate Java skills.
- Deep understanding of data structures and computer science algorithms.
- Experience designing system software with knowledge of computer architecture, storage, networks, and IO subsystems.
- Commitment to clean coding practices and quality with attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and developing large-scale distributed systems, including knowledge of scaling, replication, consistency, and high availability.
- Familiarity with distributed storage systems such as file systems, database internals, no-SQL stores, or hash tables.
- Expertise in performance tuning and optimization.
- Good understanding of the Apache Hadoop ecosystem.
- Contributions to open-source projects considered an asset.
- Experience with Apache Hadoop platform components like MapReduce, HBase, Hive, and Spark is a plus.
- Knowledge of distributed consensus protocols such as Paxos or RAFT.
