Role Overview

As an Intermediate Software Engineer at 7shifts, you will be responsible for end-to-end development, taking new features from design through deployment. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including product managers and designers, owning your tasks fully and making practical technical choices that impact a large user base.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust, scalable backend services, APIs, and user-facing functions.
• Incorporate AI-assisted development tools into your workflow, thoroughly reviewing and validating outputs with production-level rigor.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to transform complex challenges into practical, elegant solutions.
• Improve system reliability and performance through detailed code reviews, architectural enhancements, and strategic refactoring.
• Take charge of troubleshooting production issues by investigating and resolving bugs and user-reported problems.
• Contribute actively to the engineering culture by engaging in technical discussions and continuously refining team processes and standards.
• Lead projects from conception to delivery, making pragmatic decisions and consistently adding value to users.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree, diploma, or equivalent practical experience in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least two years of professional experience building, deploying, and maintaining web applications and services within a team environment.
• Strong proficiency in modern web development, including backend programming languages and solid knowledge of relational databases.
• A proven ability to deliver high-quality code with ownership throughout the full software development lifecycle.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of explaining complex technical ideas clearly and contributing effectively to teamwork.
• A self-driven, proactive working style with good problem-solving skills to manage ambiguity and prioritize tasks appropriately.
• Experience utilizing AI development tools (such as Copilot or Claude) as part of the development process.
• A customer-centered approach along with a passion for creating solutions that address real-world challenges.

Preferred but Not Mandatory

• Experience working in restaurant technology sectors delivering customer-focused solutions.
• Practical experience with Elixir programming in production environments.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is CAD 80,000 to CAD 120,000 annually. This range encompasses growth stages from developing core skills to mastering the role, with the typical external hire expected at the accomplished level who can confidently deliver results and still have room for growth. Compensation increases with performance and experience over time.
