Software Engineer 3 - Query Execution

About the Role

Join the MongoDB Server Query team to develop a cutting-edge distributed open source query engine which is central to data processing performance and user experience. This role involves managing the complete MongoDB Query Language lifecycle, including parsing, optimizing, plan selection, and execution, covering geospatial search and update modules.

Team and Location

MongoDB's global team operates across North America (US and Canada) and Europe, including Dublin and Cork in Ireland. The role is based in Dublin or Cork and supports a hybrid working setup aligning work hours with respective time zones.

Key Responsibilities

• Enhance and maintain the current MongoDB query engine functionality.
• Design and implement new features to improve query performance, robustness, and language enhancements.
• Develop diagnostics for query performance issues and integrate with various products and tools.
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams including client drivers, cloud, support, consulting, and marketing to ensure seamless coordination of changes.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience working in data-intensive environments.
• Proven ability to develop robust, industrial-grade software.
• Strong computer science foundation with expertise in data structures, algorithms, and software system design.
• Experience handling large-scale codebases.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field; equivalent practical experience is also considered.
• Familiarity with C++ and database system development is advantageous.
• Interest or advanced knowledge in database query engines (M.Sc./Ph.D. preferred).

Success Measures

• Within one month: resolve bugs in minor release versions.
• Within three months: contribute to a project targeting the upcoming major release.
• Within six months: assume primary responsibility for code reviews and design evaluations of new features.
• By twelve months: make substantial contributions towards significant new feature development.
