Role Summary

We are looking for a Software Development Manager to join our Engineering division, based in or near Dublin. This position requires being physically present in the office at least twice weekly on designated Anchor Days.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with the triad team (Designer, Product Manager, and Development Manager) to understand business challenges, identify high-impact opportunities, and develop a strategic roadmap.
• Lead your team in designing robust technical solutions.
• Provide thoughtful feedback on code reviews, architecture documentation, and technical decisions to support project success.
• Actively contribute to projects by performing code reviews or writing code.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to facilitate their career growth and development.
• Participate in recruitment efforts to expand the engineering team.
• Support fellow developers at Clio by reviewing code and offering expertise on various technologies and design patterns.

Candidate Profile

• Proven track record in managing people within software development environments, especially on large-scale SaaS platforms.
• Strong hands-on background in software development.
• Broad technical expertise enabling effective problem-solving for complex challenges.
• Ability to articulate successful projects and lessons learned from less successful ones.
• Demonstrated skill in hiring top engineering talent and fostering their growth and retention.
• A balanced focus between personal technical contributions and team development.
• Open-mindedness toward ideas, encouraging a culture of flexible thinking within the team.
• Commitment to delivering honest, constructive feedback and promoting reciprocal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Well-formed philosophy on building effective software development teams.
• Experience working with CRM systems at scale.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or Python frameworks.
