About the Role
We are inviting experienced software engineers passionate about creating real-time, distributed, and large-scale services to join our global Advertising Engineering team. This team focuses on building automated, seamless advertising systems that serve millions worldwide. Located in Melbourne, our expanding Ads Engineering division offers the chance to work within a startup-like atmosphere inside one of the largest companies globally.
As a Software Development Engineer II, you will contribute to developing scalable, extensible, and secure services supporting advertisers worldwide. Collaborating closely with product managers, technologists, and principals across Amazon, your team drives the technology roadmap for our Advertising AI Core Infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate independently to deliver solutions to complex software challenges by designing, developing, testing, and deploying extensible and scalable systems.
- Lead significant projects, coordinating work to enable parallel development with other engineers, and integrate components into cohesive launches.
- Work extensively with AWS technologies.
- Support critical Ads Availability infrastructure spanning multiple regions and Availability Zones to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
- Collaborate with global teams to maintain a secure environment for all advertising services.
Daily Work Environment
A typical day includes a team stand-up meeting focused on aligning priorities, followed by coding sessions, participating in code reviews, discussing technical designs, and resolving complex problems within an agile workflow. You will engage with diverse teams across disciplines and locations to innovate and build technologies in a large distributed environment.

Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
- At least 2 years of experience in designing or architecting new or existing systems, including understanding design patterns, reliability, and scalability.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages.
- Preferred: Over 3 years involvement across complete software development lifecycle phases such as coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent discipline.
