Job description

Overview

Join the AWS In-Memory Databases team and contribute to building cutting-edge in-memory database services such as ElastiCache and MemoryDB. These fully managed databases enable customers to enhance application speed by providing low latency, high throughput NoSQL data solutions compatible with Valkey, Redis OSS, and Memcached.

Role and Responsibilities

As a backend engineer focused on in-memory database technologies, you will leverage your expertise in data storage, distributed computing, and software design to develop scalable, high-performance NoSQL systems. You'll be tasked with designing innovative solutions to ensure sub-millisecond latency at scale and participate in rigorous problem-solving and root cause analysis to improve service reliability. Your role includes occasional daytime on-call duties approximately every 2–3 months.

Team Culture and Work Environment

The team prioritizes a healthy work-life balance, with core office hours typically set between 10am and 4pm. Most team members work from the Dublin office but some remote work is supported. New team members benefit from dedicated onboarding, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing through team design reviews. The team environment fosters respect, equity, and inclusiveness, encouraging diverse perspectives to drive sound decision-making.

Basic Qualifications

  • Professional experience in software development (non-internship).
  • Experience in system design and architecture encompassing design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
  • Hands-on experience with the full software development lifecycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations.

Additional Information

This role is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC) which powers a range of foundational and innovative cloud services including S3 and EC2. The team supports services across compute, database, storage, IoT, platform, and productivity apps, with a commitment to security and specialized cloud solutions.
