Role Summary
NetBrain is seeking a Software Architect to take full ownership of the technical architecture for their next-generation SaaS platform on AWS. This senior, hands-on leadership role bridges infrastructure, platform engineering, and product strategy. It is ideal for someone with proven experience transitioning products from on-premises or private cloud environments to scalable public SaaS platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish the reference architecture for NetBrain's AWS SaaS platform, including compute, networking, data management, messaging, and observability components.
- Lead the design strategy for multi-tenancy, focusing on data isolation, tenant routing, and compliance boundaries.
- Manage Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation by creating reusable modules and governing IaC standards across teams.
- Architect container orchestration with Kubernetes, defining cluster topology, workload scheduling, autoscaling policies, and namespace conventions.
- Develop and oversee the event-driven messaging layer using RabbitMQ (preferred) or Kafka, addressing schema governance, dead-letter message handling, and consumer patterns.
- Design polyglot persistence models combining relational databases and MongoDB, including standards for data modeling, backup, and recovery procedures.
- Implement an observability framework involving metrics, tracing, logging, alerting, and establish SLI/SLO standards suitable for enterprise customers.
- Integrate security within the platform architecture, covering encryption, Identity and Access Management (IAM), secrets management, network segmentation, and roadmap to SOC 2 Type II compliance.
- Create architecture decision records (ADRs) and comprehensive documentation that provide clear guidance for engineering teams and inform product leadership.
Candidate Profile
- 8 to 12+ years of experience in software or infrastructure engineering, including at least 4 years in a SaaS architecture role.
- Extensive, practical AWS expertise across compute, networking, storage, and managed services beyond theoretical knowledge.
- Proven success in architecting multi-tenant SaaS platforms, particularly transitioning from on-premises or private cloud to public SaaS.
- Strong background in cloud-native design patterns such as event-driven architecture, microservices, twelve-factor apps, and API-first approaches.
- Experience providing architectural leadership across multiple engineering teams, setting strategic direction without micromanagement.
- Skilled in producing clear, actionable documentation understandable to both engineering teams and executive stakeholders; capable of explaining trade-offs to non-technical audiences.
- Physical aspects of the role include manual dexterity from frequent computer use and the ability to remain seated in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers an estimated base salary between CAD 150,000 and CAD 180,000 annually, with potential bonuses. The final salary will be determined based on multiple factors, including market conditions and individual qualifications assessed during the hiring process.
