Job description

About the Role

Amazon CloudFront is a globally distributed content delivery network designed to securely deliver videos, live streams, web content, applications, and APIs with minimal latency and high throughput. Our mission centers on building a safer and more efficient internet. Our team develops software that manages millions of transactions per second and handles exabytes of data daily, constantly innovating at unparalleled scale.

This position presents a rare chance to shape the future of AWS by leading development of next-generation observability platforms, such as event streaming and big data processing systems that analyze petabytes of data daily. You will recruit, mentor, and cultivate a positive engineering team culture, guiding skilled engineers to execute projects rapidly and effectively. Regular engagement with customers, collaboration with product management and cross-functional teams, roadmap creation, and providing senior leadership with updates are key aspects of this opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a software development team ensuring timely delivery with top-tier quality and innovative solutions.
  • Design and implement scalable log event streaming and telemetry systems supporting both internal operations and external observability needs.
  • Remain deeply involved with technology details and engineering trade-offs, keeping a strong customer focus.
  • Promote best practices across software development, testing, documentation, and continuously enhance processes.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and other teams to develop and deploy technical solutions that enhance user experience across a wide array of products.
  • Oversee observability efforts for edge services including CloudFront, Application Gateway Accelerator (AGA), Web Application Firewall (WAF), and Shield, which collectively make up the Edge application environment.

Daily Activities

The Edge Observability team fosters a highly collaborative atmosphere, contributing significantly to the feature rollout of CloudFront, AGA, WAF, and Shield. You will independently manage sub-services related to log event streaming, telemetry, and observability both internally and externally. Planning for short and long-term goals, aligning assignments to foster engineer growth, and maintaining strong communication with stakeholders are essential to success in this role.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years managing engineering teams.
  • At least 7 years of direct experience as an engineering team member.
  • Minimum 3 years designing or architecting new or existing systems with consideration for design patterns, reliability, and scalability.
  • Over 8 years leading the design and development of multi-tier web services.
  • Proficient understanding of software engineering life cycle practices including coding standards, code reviews, version control, build and testing procedures, certification, and live site operations.
  • Experience working with product or program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, describe features, and set product strategies.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, coaching, and mentoring software engineers to elevate their abilities and productivity.

Additional Information

Amazon values diversity and inclusion and is committed to providing equal opportunity for all applicants without regard to veteran status, disability, or other protected categories. The company supports accommodations throughout the hiring process for candidates with disabilities.

Compensation includes a base salary of CAD 171,400 to 286,200 per year, potentially supplemented by sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs). Benefits encompass comprehensive health coverage, retirement savings plans, paid time off, and wellness resources.
