Role Purpose
This position spearheads and supports social performance efforts within the environmental sector. The incumbent will evaluate licensees' adherence to social performance standards, handle community grievances, perform on-site evaluations, and assist in stakeholder and community engagement activities. The goal is to ensure effective monitoring of social performance mandates, identify areas needing improvement, and facilitate positive advancements among licensees.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the intake process, screening, completeness verification, and risk-based prioritization of social performance self-reports submitted by environmental license holders.
- Conduct thorough technical assessments of social performance documentation to verify compliance concerning stakeholder interaction, grievance handling, community investment, local content participation, human rights observance, and resettlement issues when applicable.
- Analyze submitted reports to detect social risks, emerging trends, and compliance discrepancies; formulate data-driven recommendations and corrective measures accordingly.
- Monitor the implementation of corrective actions with licensees, ensuring follow-up until resolution of identified gaps.
- Handle community grievances by ensuring prompt investigation, thorough follow-up, and case closure aligned with stipulated service level agreements and organizational commitments.
- Perform site visits and field audits as needed, compiling well-substantiated reports that include findings, agreed-upon actions, and required follow-up steps.
- Create guidance materials and conduct informational sessions aimed at enhancing licensees' understanding of social performance criteria, reporting protocols, and best practices.
- Suggest and assist in initiatives aimed at fortifying social performance, including the development of grievance processes, standardized reporting templates, risk assessment methodologies, and community engagement frameworks.
- Collaborate actively with various departments such as Licensing, Legal, Field Operations, Environmental/Sustainability, and Communications to support integrated social performance management.
- Track key social performance indicators and compile periodic reports and dashboards covering review outcomes, corrective action statuses, grievance resolutions, and awareness program effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in disciplines like social sciences, community development, sustainability, public policy, or related areas.
- At least five years of relevant work experience in fields including social performance management, community engagement, stakeholder relations, sustainability practices, or social compliance monitoring.
