Site Reliability Engineer, Tech Infrastructure - USDS

About the Team

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) group at TikTok integrates software and system engineering to create and operate expansive, highly distributed, and fault-tolerant systems. The team tackles large-scale challenges through expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis, and system design, fostering a culture grounded in diversity, intellectual curiosity, transparency, and problem-solving. Collaborative teamwork is valued alongside self-driven approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop automation workflows that boost operational efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
• Collaborate closely with software engineering departments to design, deploy, and maintain robust system components.
• Ensure systems scale efficiently to accommodate increasing web traffic and data volumes.
• Implement monitoring solutions and define metrics to continuously observe system health and performance.
• Engage in on-call rotations, aid incident management, and troubleshoot production problems proactively.
• Execute performance testing to identify system bottlenecks and optimize accordingly.
• Work with cross-functional teams to establish Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Indicators (SLIs), and Agreements (SLAs).
• Adopt best practices for sustainable user support, incident responses, and blameless post-incident analyses.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related discipline with over three years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, Systems Engineer, or comparable position.
• Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, and Shell scripting.
• Hands-on experience with network architecture, database design, cloud technologies, and large distributed systems.
• Strong Linux OS knowledge and familiarity with open-source tools.

Preferred Skills

• Expertise in container technologies and orchestration platforms like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Strong analytical problem-solving abilities and capacity to debug complex infrastructures.
• Excellent communication skills and effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Work Environment

Recognizing the need for rapid decision making, team cohesion, and integrated execution, TikTok USDS is transitioning from a hybrid model back to a fully on-site schedule with presence up to five days a week.
