Site Reliability Engineer, AML Platform

About the Role and Team

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) group within the AML (Applied Machine Learning) team at TikTok USDS is dedicated to the development and operation of large-scale AI/ML infrastructures, powering services such as recommendations and large language models. Working with this team offers the opportunity to enhance expertise in coding, performance evaluation, and large distributed system management while playing a pivotal role in infrastructure capacity planning and hardware decisions. The SRE team prioritizes maximum uptime of critical machine learning systems and builds automation tools and pipelines to optimize operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and sustain systems that are robust, scalable, and highly available.
• Continuously monitor system metrics and performance, swiftly diagnosing and addressing problems to prevent user impact.
• Create and manage automated tools for monitoring, alert generation, and incident handling.
• Work closely with software engineers to integrate reliability, scalability, and performance considerations into application design.
• Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
• Participate in on-call rotations, providing incident response across all hours.
• Conduct thorough incident investigations, perform post-mortems with team members, and apply improvements to prevent repeat occurrences.

Required Qualifications

• Strong skills in analyzing and debugging Linux-based distributed systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Programming proficiency in at least one of these languages: C, C++, Python, or Go.
• Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Familiarity with relational database management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing and supporting large-scale system architectures.
• Expertise in code optimization and automating recurring tasks.
• Knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, MXNet, or PaddlePaddle.
