Role Overview
The SIM Engineer II will join Cubic9's growing SIM Engineering team, which focuses on delivering solutions related to SIM and eSIM Remote SIM Provisioning technologies. The team develops cutting-edge connectivity projects serving industries like automotive, agriculture, and transport. Engineers work on designing, validating, and supporting SIM/eSIM technology, managing logistical aspects, and servicing a global client base.
Key Responsibilities
- Support in the design, validation, and upkeep of electrical profiles for SIM and eSIM products.
- Develop Java Card applets for SIM/eSIM services adhering to 3GPP, ETSI, and GSMA standards.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation including specifications, APIs, and test plans.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams such as mobile core networks, security, IoT vendors, and smart card manufacturers.
- Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain SIM-based applications and associated tools integrated within the SIM/eSIM ecosystem.
- Participate in peer reviews of electrical test data and reports, fostering team technical growth.
What You Will Gain
This role provides comprehensive hands-on experience covering the end-to-end SIM/eSIM ordering, provisioning, OTA infrastructure, and network-device interactions. The engineer will work closely with an expert team on innovative M2M and IoT eSIM technologies across diverse domains.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Academic credential in a relevant technical field such as Engineering or Computer Science.
- Between 3 and 6 years of professional experience in a technology organization, ideally within telecoms; up to 3 years specifically in SIM/eSIM/OTA research and development.
- Working knowledge of Remote SIM Provisioning as per GSMA specifications SGP.02, SGP.22, and SGP.32.
- Strong understanding of SIM/eSIM architecture and protocols including APDU and ISO 7816.
- Familiarity with 3GPP/ETSI standards applicable to SIMs, e.g., TS 31.102, TS 102.221.
- Experience using smart card testing and tracing tools like Comprion.
- Knowledge of secure coding standards and cryptographic protocols.
- Proficiency in version control (e.g., Git) and development toolsets.
- Familiarity with SIM operating systems such as MULTOS and native SIM OS for secure elements.
- Experience collaborating with mobile network operators (MNOs), handset OEMs, and understanding mobile elements like HSS and OTA platforms.
- Technical skills in Postman API, Java, C#, SQL, and scripting languages.
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as DataDog and Zabbix.
- Demonstrated proactive attitude, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Quick learner with a strong commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and accept responsibility for tasks.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience using Atlassian products, e.g., Confluence and Jira.
- Exposure to working in a Kanban-driven environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with fresh perspectives on existing issues.

Terms and Conditions
New employees are required to work onsite full-time during their initial six-month probation to integrate with the company culture and team. Following probation, there is a flexible option to work remotely up to eight days per month contingent on business needs and performance metrics. This hybrid arrangement is subject to role-specific eligibility.
